Voice-controlled Dalek

Voice-controlled Dalek
We’ve seen remote controlled Daleks in the past - but here’s a new novelty. Voice-controlled Daleks FTW! The Voice Controlled Dalek is a new generation of galactic evil. Standing a mighty foot and a half high, he’s able to track moving objects, and as well as you being able to direct him by radio control, he responds to over 30 voice commands. Complete with sound, movement and heat sensors, he’s festooned with sound and light effects, and his memory banks store over 50 Dalek phrases (helpfully translated into gargled English). His ‘Eye’ and ‘Exterminator’ arm light up, and his head can rotate through 270 degrees - which steals the thunder from owls somewhat. (Read the full post about ‘Voice-controlled Dalek’…)

Wireless customers say they have enough options

Written by admin on Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008 in Gadgets and Devices.

A study performed by Compete, Inc., a Web analytics company, shows that many wireless customers have some interesting needs when it comes to finding what they need from carriers. In an environment where each wireless carrier is attempting to outdo the the other ones with the latest handsets, services, or applications, it turns out that 59% of customers already feel they have a sufficient selection. The study also found that wireless carriers may want to shift from marketing new applications, devices, and services to marketing what they already have.

Some shoppers didn’t know that GPS and Internet connectivity were already available.

SetYourRate.com launch

SetYourRate.com launch
UK buyers of services can rejoice with the opening of SetYourRate.com, a new online services marketplace with services up for sale from professional services like accountancy to fun leisure activities such as pole dancing lessons. Personally, I’d pay for a pole dancing watching activity! Because service sellers can remain anonymous, registrants can use the site to attract moonlighting opportunities while others use it to market services in the hope of building a client-base to ‘go it alone’ with their own business. Many students advertise their skills to help fund their studies – an attractive and potentially lucrative alternative to pulling pints at the Students’ Union (just not as fun). Radeon 3870 X2 Spotted In Guangzhou
The dual-chipped beast of Cathay, AMD’s Radeon HD 3870 X2, is already available in the far east thanks to HIS, one of its hardware partners. According to photos posted by a forumite at ocworkbench.com, the 3870 is a brutal $550 on the shelf, running at 825MHz GPU and packing 1GB of GDDR3 RAM. No benchmarks are up, but it’ll be only a matter of days: AMD’s entire 2008 lineup is about to hit town, so small armies are beavering away at seeing exactly how much smack this fist has in it. 3M Micro Projector

Written by admin on Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008 in Gadgets and Devices.

3M Micro Projector
3M has just released its new Micro Projector that aims to be integrated into virtually any mobile platform, and the company claims that its LED-illuminated projection engine can throw a 40″ VGA image from an ultra compact module that measures no larger than 0.5″ in thickness. The image is purportedly of a high enough quality that does not have any speckles, using an advanced liquid crystal on silicon electronic imager with proprietary 3M optics technology to get the desired results. I wonder when will be the first consumer electronic devices that will utilize such projectors - imagine an iPod with a built-in projector! (Read the full post about ‘3M Micro Projector’…)

NBC and Apple Exchange a Few Kind Words, Spark iTunes Rumors [NBC Vs ITunes]
NBC has a new found respect for Steve Jobs and Apple, and Jobs himself has spoken about mending the fence with NBC. But do a few kind words really substantiate rumors that NBC will bring their shows back to iTunes? While we don’t think a future reunion is far fetched, there’s nothing in either interview that supports this rumor for the time being.
