While we’ve already been impressed by Lexus’ self-parking car, we’re even more intrigued by a good omni directional wheel design. We’re not certain of the source behind this video, but whoever worked on this project really needs to get in touch with Ford, Honda and our insurance adjuster ASAP.

Wii Raincheck, Shoulda Coulda Woulda [Update]

Wii Raincheck, Shoulda Coulda Woulda [Update]
Who would’ve thunk? A month after Christmas, retail-priced Wiis are still pretty much sold out everywhere. And while ours sits in our entertainment center gathering dust, many others still only own Wiis in their hearts, hopes and dreams. The moral of the story? Apparently those who scored a Wii in Gamestop’s Wii Raincheck offer weren’t so foolish for plunking down $250 upfront to receive their console one month later. Just as Alanis Morissette warned us back in the 90’s: you live, you learn. (Read the full post about ‘Wii Raincheck, Shoulda Coulda Woulda [Update]’…)

iRiver Gold-Plates Mplayer For Chinese New Year [Portable Media]
In honor of the year of the rat and Chinese New Year (Feb. 7), iRiver’s coating their rat/mouse-shaped Mplayer in gold. This seems like it’s real gold, seeing as each one is individually numbered and comes in a limited edition box. However, it’s only available in China, which means you’re going to have to get your Disney-inspired rat MP3 player imported if you want in on the rat action. Posted Jan 27th 2008 3:28PM by Joshua TopolskyFiled under: Misc. Bruketa & Zinic Pioneer Book Baking Market [Design]

Bruketa & Zinic Pioneer Book Baking Market [Design]
Podravka, a European food company, recently received their annual report from the folks at Bruketa & Zinic, but all the pages were blank—until the book was baked. Yes, those clever fellows at Bruketa & Zinić put together an annual report that was laced with thermo-reactive ink. The initially blank pages displayed text once the book had been covered in foil and baked for 25 minutes at 100°C. The report was titled, Well Done, and we could not have thought of a better pun if you held us upside down over an alligator pit and tickled us with a fluffy feather, but it wasn’t done for just humor’s sake.galleryPost(’weldonGI’, 3, ”); An included recipe sections received the same treatment. Out of control satellite “weeks” away from slamming into Earth
Posted Jan 27th 2008 11:33AM by Joshua TopolskyFiled under: Misc. Gadgets Good news, everyone! According to reports, a US spy satellite which has lost power and propulsion is weeks or even months away from striking Earth. Officials say that the space junk — which can now no longer be controlled and could contain hazardous materials — is due to come smashing into some location on our planet’s surface, but they can’t really say where. “Numerous satellites over the years have come out of orbit and fallen harmlessly. We are looking at potential options to mitigate any possible damage this satellite may cause,” said Gordon Johndroe, a spokesman for the Nation Security Council. Lumin’s MultiTouch display does… uh, multi-touch
Posted Jan 27th 2008 1:20PM by Joshua TopolskyFiled under: Displays If you’ve absolutely, positively got to have a multi-touch display system right this second, look no further than the Germany company Lumin and its creatively named MultiTouch. For an undisclosed price (available on request) you and your loved ones can be pawing all over the 42-inch, 1024 x 768 display, which is powered by a Mac Mini and can be coupled with Apple’s wireless keyboard and mouse. The screen — which is quite similar to the LG.Philips display we got our mitts on at CES — is driven by Lumin’s proprietary software, and allows you to do all Surface-esque manner of tricks, like zooming, rotating, and panning with various finger / hand combinations. The Neoflush 600 “Sophisticated Sensuality”

The Neoflush 600 “Sophisticated Sensuality”
It seems as though Japan has an obsession with incorporating as much technology as possible when performing the most basic human function. Toto says that their Neoflush 600 “turns the ordinary into extraordinary”, and “Sophisticated sensuality”… hmm… sensuality and toilet are two words I would have never put in a sentence together. What is it this toilet actually does for you?? The Neoflush 600 features an automatic lid raiser, jet wash with heated air dry function, a heated seat, and a multi function wireless remote (where does the sensuality come into play?).  It even uses something called a CycloneSiphon Jet flushing system, which sounds like just the thing for those trips to the smallest room after an evening at the all you can eat Mexican buffet.
