HP 2710p Tablet PC, now with optional 64GB SSD

HP 2710p Tablet PC, now with optional 64GB SSD
SSD storage is still far from mainstream, but with more and more companies beginning to offer an option it will eventually become a little more popular and hopefully become a lot more reasonably priced. HP has recently added a 64GB solid-state-drive option on their 2710p Tablet PC. Similar to the other options out with SSD installed the price seems to be a barrier for a good amount of people. To have the 64GB SSD installed in the 2710p you have to be willing to part with an additional $919. Of course with time it will come down, while its expensive its still very nice to see it being offered. In addition to the optional 64GB SSD, the 2710p Tablet also has an option for an 80GB 4200rpm drive for $60 or a 100GB 4200rpm drive for $120. Cubic MP3 player
All of us who like listening to music but are bored to death with our old MP3 players try to find something original, stylish and useful. Now there is a possibility to do so and make someone else happy at the same time. World Vision, an international relief and development organization, announced the release of Nanum charity MP3 player designed by Samgmin Bae. World Vision plans to donate all earned money to low-income families with children. Moreover, it should be mentioned that in contrast to other charity items that are already on the market and donate only a portion of earnings, MP3 Nanum was produced, manufactured, and distributed for the sole purpose of sharing. It is a 100% charity item. (Read the full post about ‘Cubic MP3 player’…)

Sleuthy NYC Couple Use Deckard Technique to Find Aussie Lost-Camera Owner [Lost And Found]
It was like a real-life scene from Blade Runner, well, except for the pleasure-model skin jobs, the handguns that sound like laser blasters and the whole Harrison Ford thing. An NYC couple stumbles upon a digital camera left in a cab on New Year’s Eve, and decide to turn all sleuthy. They pore over the 300 photos and videos in the memory card—which probably wasn’t exactly legal—landing upon a shot of a bunch of people drunk in a bar, wearing nametags. Though the names themselves seemed to lead nowhere, a couple clicks up and to the right, a little zoom and voila! Our heroes could see the bar’s name, written on an awning. Popping over there, they shook down the bartender for information. (Read the full post about ‘Sleuthy NYC Couple Use Deckard Technique to Find Aussie Lost-Camera Owner [Lost And Found]’…)

Intel issues product discontinuance notice for seven Merom chips
Posted Jan 29th 2008 7:33AM by Darren MurphFiled under: Desktops, Laptops Oh, Merom. It felt like just yesterday that we were shaking our heads in disappointment after reading lackluster reviews and wondering when you’d finally make an appearance in Apple’s MacBook Pro. Thankfully, times change, and with Intel’s mobile Penryn stealing all the limelight of late, we ’spose it’s about time the Merom lineup cashed out its 401(k) and sailed off to Maui. According to a PCN (product change notification) from the chip maker, the Core 2 Duo T7200, T7600, T5500, T5600 and LV L7200 are being flagged for discontinuation along with the less potent Celeron M 520 and 530. HTC Loses Title as #1 Non-Touchscreen Windows Mobile Smartphone Maker, Now #3 [Smartphones]
DigiTimes, which cites internal Microsoft data, claims that HTC has declined from the previous #1 Windows Mobile non-touchscreen smartphone maker spot with over 50% of the market (from July ‘06 to June ‘07) to just under 30% of the market. Stepping up to take over HTC’s spot are Motorola and Samsung, whose respective Q and BlackJack models are apparently more popular than previously thought. The same report says that HTC is still #1 in terms of the smartphones with touchscreen, with about a 50% share. Honestly, the touchscreen models are where HTC’s focusing most of their efforts anyway, so this isn’t that huge of a deal. Motorola and Samsung steal Smartphone market from HTC?
Posted Jan 29th 2008 3:10AM by Thomas RickerFiled under: Cellphones Although Motorola’s market share has been steadily sliding to the delight of Nokia and Samsung, DigiTimes would have you believe that Moto reigns supreme in the global Windows Mobile Smartphone segment. Citing “internal data from Microsoft,” the oft-wrong, occasionally correct tattle-rag claims that HTC’s share of the WinMo Standard space has declined leaving Moto with the largest market share — beating Samsung by, “a small margin.” This after HTC saw a 50% Smartphone domination during Microsoft’s Jul 2006 - Jul 2007 fiscal year. HTC still maintains a 50% market share for WinMo Professional touch-screen devices. (Read the full post about ‘Motorola and Samsung steal Smartphone market from HTC?’…)

When Star Wars Meets Transformers : Darth Vader to Death Star
Toys are not only for the little boys. There are toys that could fascinate adults as well. Just take a look at this cool new toy called the Transforming Death Star. The idea of the toy is simple – and that is to mesh the powers of Darth Vader with the skills of the Transformers. This toy is so amazing that robot fanatics, regardless of their ages and preferences, would definitely want to own one. The Transforming Death Star has the ability to change from a Death Star into the feared Darth Vader, and then back again. But if you think that that is everything the toy can do, then you’re terribly mistaken. The toy is also created with movie-accurate speech, lights, and sounds, to say very the least. Third iPhone 1.1.3 Jailbreak Upgrades Directly via Installer [Iphone Jailbreak]
If you’ve got an already jailbroken 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 iPhone, you can now upgrade directly via Installer.app—no connecting to Mac or PC required. The only caveat is that the process takes 45 minutes as it downloads the entire upgrade via Wi-Fi, so hook your phone up to an AC adapter before you start. Again, find it in installer.app on your jailbroken 1.1.2 iPhone.
