Interview with David Jaffe, God of War Creator and Eat, Sleep, Play Founder
Twisted Metal: Head On: Extra Twisted Edition , a PSP to PlayStation 2 port, launches on Tuesday. The game is the first release from Eat, Sleep, Play. That’s a new design studio founded by David Jaffe and Scott Campbell, head of Incognito Studio. I got a chance to speak with Jaffe about what’s going on with the new Twisted Metal and what else is in the pipeline at Eat, Sleep, Play. Twisted Metal: Head On: Extra Twisted Edition, is, as Jaffe says, “a goodbye letter for fans of the series.” The game is loaded with new content and new levels. As we reported a couple weeks ago, Jaffe’s been blogging about this game and posting some behind-the-scenes stuff for fans. Real Fireplace Illuminational Heater

Real Fireplace Illuminational Heater

Considering how cold the winter is where I live, I could certainly use the Real Fireplace Illuminational Heater right now. The Real Fireplace Illuminational Heater was developed in Japan, and I am told that they have some pretty cold winters. In fact, many apartment dwellings in Japan are not well insulated and do not have fireplaces. It appears that this device solves both of those dilemmas. You can clearly see how this device creates a realistic flatscreen display of a fireplace. It certainly is much better than those fake fireplaces with the rotating red and yellow light underneath some fake plastic “ashes”. (Read the full post about ‘Real Fireplace Illuminational Heater’…)

Virtual Flower Pot - Valentine’s Day Gift
If you’re reading this on February 13th, a virtual gift is just about all you’ve got time for. Google Gadgets has this great, red tulip that grows on your dektop when you “water” it and unlike real flowers, lasts forever, or at least until you break up. It’s only a 161KB file; just make sure he/she has Google Desktop 4 or above. Or, if you’re on Facebook, you can send all sorts of virtual flowers to your sweetie. Apple releases more tutorials to get you to switch to Mac

Written by admin on Friday, February 1st, 2008 in Gadgets and Devices.

Most people are familiar with the video tours offered on Apple.com that feature a guy in Jobsian-attire showing off either how to navigate around your iPhone or demoing all of the new features of Leopard. Well, Apple just released a few more tutorials under its Find Out How section that are specifically geared towards showing you how to navigate around OS X (the Finder, System Preferences, etc..), use Windows on a Mac, and / or Move to Mac. The new tutorials can either be watched directly at Apple.com or downloaded to your iTunes library.

I was a little skeptical at first, but after having watched them I have to say that Apple is doing a great job of making the Mac look like it’s the easiest machine to use.

Sprint to Nextel customers: Direct Connect is here to stay

Written by admin on Friday, February 1st, 2008 in Gadgets and Devices.

When Sprint and Nextel merged, many Nextel customers feared the iDEN technology that powered the Push-To-Talk service would be passed over as the new company pushed more products in line with what Sprint already offered. Sprint has a special message for Nextel Direct Connect customers.; its commitment to the iDEN network remains.

Best of all, not only will Sprint look to continue to support the iDEN technology, the company now wants to enhance it in 2008. This includes combining the Direct Connect service with Sprint Mobile Broadband data capabilities. So, instead of just using Push-To-Talk, you could also push-to-x, whether x is an image, text message, or information.

Sony helps simplify printing process

Sony helps simplify printing process

PMA is a busy, busy period for everyone involved in the imaging business, and the same can be said for Sony. The company has just introduced a couple of photo printers that boast one touch printing as well as in-printer photo editing features, allowing even the most clueless person to be able to print out some rather decent images straight from the camera without any need to know about Photoshop and its wonders. The two photo printers in question are the Sony PictureStation DPP-FP95 and DPP-FP75, being small and portable enough to be carried around anywhere without snapping a tendon in your shoulder or something. Since these photo printers are light enough to tote around, they can be taken to different events for instant printouts. (Read the full post about ‘Sony helps simplify printing process’…)

Tongue-controlled Wheelchair

Tongue-controlled Wheelchair
Scientists are currently working on new technology that allows wheelchairs to be controlled by one’s tongue. Should their efforts pay off in a working prototype, this would provide unprecedented freedom to severely disabled people. Currently, they are targeting an electric wheelchair that responds to eight different flicks of the tongue, where a small microphone located in the ear will be capable of detecting each tongue movement while a computer converts them into various commands such as start, stop, and turn. Sounds like a program that ought to receive more funding so that it can roll out faster. Hopefully the final product won’t be a financial burden on the intended users. Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About MacBook Air

Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About MacBook Air
Jason Snell’s review of the MacBook Air is long, comprehensive, and hits all the right notes. Not only does he review the unit, but also the experience of using it, right down to the "hard-to-define weight barrier" that subnotebooks straddle. There are benchmarks, 690 words just about the battery, and even ruminations on whether it could be reasonably used as a primary computer. (Conclusion: it would be a lifestyle choice.) It’s almost tragic that he has to rate it 3.5 out of 5 right at the start of the review, with one sentence of Pros and another of Cons. Its as if all those words were completely superfluous.
