Wearable 3G CCTV system lets you snoop sort-of discreetly, be totally creepy
Posted Feb 8th 2008 4:16PM by Nilay PatelFiled under: Wearables We’ve certainly seen our share of wearable cameras and CCTV gear, but a company in England called WCCTV is aiming to combine the worst qualities of each with the 3G Covert Backpack, a torso-mounted vest with built-in camera and 3G modem. We’re not exactly sure how “covert” a giant vest with a camera sticking out of it is, but assuming you make it into your mark’s back-alley lair, the vest will transmit audio and video over 3G to your handlers, as well as your GPS-tracked location. If things get hairy, there’s a panic button — but it’s located on the right shoulder, so smacking it is just about as discreet as yelling for help into the camera. d20 Necklace for Portable Nerdery

You’re in a darkened basement, huddled over your bag of dice waiting for your turn in Shadowrun. Sweat beads across your forehead as you roll your lucky d20 between your fingers, awaiting that all important saving roll that you so desperately need. That’s a feeling that a lot of tabletop gamers have when they’re in the moment. These same gamers have an obsessive compulsion over their dice: nobody else can touch them, they use certain ones in certain situations and they are most always stored in a special bag. These gamers love their dice, especially the de facto standard d20 dice. So what better gift for that gamer than the d20 Spiral Necklace? Power-Generating Bionic Knee
This power-generating knee has been adapted from a knee brace. Although it is said that it could power a small device like a cellphone, it is not aimed at consumers. Instead it could be used by people who don’t have an easy access to electricity, like workers in remote areas or explorers. The inventors hope to have a commercial product for field workers in five years. Newman’s Valentine’s Day DAP is so very appropriate
Posted Feb 8th 2008 10:54AM by Paul MillerFiled under: Portable Audio Isn’t that cute? It’s like two music players, but they make a heart! Oh, and look, there’s a crack down the middle, it kind of looks just like two people kissing. Maybe you can stick the Juno soundtrack on there and give half this Newman DAP to that special someone. It’s like giving a piece of your heart, only with plastic and silicon. What’s that? She doesn’t appreciate your finely honed taste in indie music? Well that’s no problem, just glue the two players back together and look at what you’ve got: a broken heart. (Read the full post about ‘Newman’s Valentine’s Day DAP is so very appropriate’…)

Gadget Lab Goes to GSMA in Barcelona
The GSMA Mobile World Congress begins in Barcelona, Spain on Monday, and the Gadget Lab will be there, tirelessly investigating the latest in mobile gadgetry and trying to find out exactly why Robert Redford appears on the Congress web page. You’ll be able to keep up with all the news right here, and everything that happens at the show can be found under the new GSMA category. If any Gadget Lab readers are going to be there, drop me a line and we can meet up (my email is at the top right of this page – put Gadget Lab Meet Up in the subject line to keep it out of my Spaminator). If there are a lot of us, we might organize some kind of low key, unofficial event (read: you can by me a cerveza in a local bar). (Read the full post about ‘Gadget Lab Goes to GSMA in Barcelona’…)
