Gravia LED Lamp; Powered the Force of Gravity

Written by admin on Friday, February 22nd, 2008 in Gadgets and Devices.

Gravia LED Lamp; Powered the Force of Gravity
People are always looking for “greener” alternatives and, in my opinion, powering anything by the force of gravity is “green.” And the Greener gadgets Conference (http://www.greenergadgets.com/) in New York agrees with me, as they had awarded this gadget a second place. Called the Gravia LED Lamp, it literally does run on the force of gravity by the use of a slowly falling mass that spins a rotor which, in turn, provides power. The lamp which is made of acrylic lens and LED lights, was designed by Clay Moulton of Virginia as part of his Master’s thesis. To power the lamp, the owner has to place the weight on top of the 4-feet acrylic column. (Read the full post about ‘Gravia LED Lamp; Powered the Force of Gravity’…)

Craftsman CompuCarve brings 3D printing to the home garage

Written by admin on Friday, February 22nd, 2008 in Gadgets and Devices.

Tools. How many times have you wanted to create a small part out of wood or plastic (or even carved your son’s Pinewood Derby car) and just couldn’t get it right because you didn’t have the right tools? Naturally, here comes Craftsman to the rescue with the Craftsman CompuCarve that allows for 3D printing of soft woods and plastics. (Insert Tim Allen pig snort here).

The desktop sized computer-controlled, 3-dimensional woodworking machine works on it’s own through a simple easy-to-use interface and car reader – no PC connection required, so sawdust doesn’t brick your HAL 9000. The CompuCarve 3D design software is either MAC or PC compatible and can be used to fashion the protoptype design.

Gadget Addiction Growing

Written by admin on Friday, February 22nd, 2008 in Gadgets and Devices.

Academics across the pond are warning of a growing and increasingly serious trend for folks to get addicted to gadgets such as a blackberry or iphone.

In this case, the definition of "addiction" seems to have a lower threshold for damaging one’s life than other, more popular roads to ruination. Signs of gadgaholism, according to professor Nada Kakabadse of Northampton University, include waking up at night to check your messages, neglecting friends and family to tinker with a device and anxiety when one is separated from the item of besottment.

Bellperre Croc Leather Phone
Ever heard of Bellperre? Neither have I, but this company apparently wants to make a name for itself in the world of cell phones by releasing a new range that does not have a single plastic part - everything else is constructed from premium leather, steel, gold, hardwood and other exquisite materials. The leather palette is huge - you have over 200 colors to choose from, while the type of leather is equally stunning as you mull over crocodile, shark, buffalo and calf. Potential customers will be able to select from a variety of metal casings including aircraft aluminum and precious 18k rose gold. No pricing details are available, but if you have to ask, you won’t be able to afford it. (Read the full post about ‘Bellperre Croc Leather Phone’…)

GDC 2008: Nokia sheds light on upcoming N-Gage service
Nokia’s new N-Gage service has been marred by several delays and, in December 2007, the company formally pushed the launch of the service to the first half of 2008. Now with a pre-launch version, N-Gage First Access, being made available to N81 users through the official N-Gage website, the full version can’t be far off. And just before the launch of the service, the ongoing Game Developers Conference proved to be a great platform for the cellphone maker to shed more light on N-Gage’s new avatar as a standard gaming service for Nokia cellphone which will allow users to download and play quality games on their cellphones. 17-inch Panasonic Monitor Costs A Bomb

Written by admin on Friday, February 22nd, 2008 in Gadgets and Devices.

17-inch Panasonic Monitor Costs A Bomb
How much does a 17″ LCD monitor cost these days? A couple of hundred would be about right, and most folks would settle for at least 19″ anyways. Why then, does this 17″ lcd monitor from Panasonic cost a whopping $5,000? Well, the answer is pretty simple - the Panasonic BT-LH1760 was specially designed for commercial photo and video editing, featuring a native resolution of 1,280 x 768 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate, which Panasonic claims is a “faithful color reproduction with twice the response speed of other currently available professional LCD monitors”. I don’t know - $5,000 is some serious amount of coin to drop. Tags: Hi-fi, PDA, high definition TV, gadgets (Read the full post about ‘17-inch Panasonic Monitor Costs A Bomb’…)

LiveSpeakR Stereo Dock

LiveSpeakR Stereo Dock
The LiveSpeakR Stereo Dock looks like something that fell out from outer space, as it wraps itself around the iphone and iPod touch. Depending on your viewing preference, the LiveSpeakR accomodates both vertical and horizontal positioning when watching video. There is no word on pricing and availability as at press time, but would you like to have one of these sitting on your desk at home? I think there are way better looking ipod docks in the market at the moment. (Read the full post about ‘LiveSpeakR Stereo Dock’…)
