Walt Mossberg reviews the ThinkPad X300

Walt Mossberg reviews the ThinkPad X300
With an overall positive review, Walt Mossberg claims the X300 is “a solid, innovative laptop that will be perfect for many mobile PC users.” Making the obvious comparison to its rival, the X300 seems to have a little more to offer feature wise as compared to the macbook air, with a few downfalls coming from the operating system and battery life. “I believe that both the Mac operating system and the software that comes with it are superior to the Windows operating system and built-in software offered on the ThinkPad.” I have to agree with him on the OS, but this is just a matter of preference and we will also have our personal reasons for which OS we prefer. Canon a620

Written by admin on Saturday, February 23rd, 2008 in Gadgets and Devices.

The Canon PowerShot A620 digital camera is a proven winner. Together with the Canon A610, the A620 replaced the extremely popular PowerShot A95. This model utalizes a 7-megapixel CCD, and both have a modestly updated body design, use the same 4X zoom lens as that of the Canon G series, and decent a 2-inch LCD. At this point you can get them at a beautiful good price. Reviews across the web are favorable and we have found the camera to have excellent quality shots, long battery life, movable viewfinder, easy to use manual settings and take awesome pictures.

SweetPea3 MP3 player for kids
I don’t know of an 8-year-old who wouldn’t be embarrassed whipping this out in front of their ipod-toting friends, but apparently the Peadpod Toys SweetPea3 is a AA-powered 256MB mp3 player designed for children ages 0 to 8. The violet and blue rubberized players support MP3 and WMA audio formats and are compatible with both Mac and Windows computers. World’s Largest Solar Plant
Abengoa Solar has signed a contract with Arizona Public Service Co. (APS), one of Arizona’s leading energy utilities, to build, own and operate what would be the largest solar power plant in the world if operating today. The plant, scheduled to go into operation by 2011, is located 70 miles southwest of Phoenix, near Gila Bend, Arizona. It will sell the electricity produced to APS over the next 30 years for a total revenue of around $4 billion, bringing over $1 billion in economic benefits to the state of Arizona. The solar plant has been named Solana, meaning “a sunny place” in Spanish. (Read the full post about ‘World’s Largest Solar Plant’…)

Microsoft increases Windows Live SkyDrive to 5GB of storage

Microsoft increases Windows Live SkyDrive to 5GB of storage
Microsoft has upped the storage for Windows Live SkyDrive users to 5GB, which is a big increase from the previous limit of 1GB. Anyone using the Windows Live service can take advantage of this free online storage, which can be accessed using any Windows or Mac computer running IE 6 or later or Firefox 1.5 or later. The uploaded files can be stored in personal folders or folders that are shared. The shared folders can be set to be shared with select friends or anyone. The SkyDrive would make a nice tool for someone on-the-go as it offers more than just online storage, other services include identity, messaging, photo management and contacts. SpaceStation multi-functional cable organizer and USB hub for your laptop
From the makers of Cableyoyo and Cool Feet laptop cooler comes this highly functional and elegantly simple cable organizer and USB hub for laptops. Like other products from Bluelounge, by itself, the SpaceStation doesn’t look like much, but put it to use with your laptop, multiple peripherals, and other junk, and it totally changes the look of your workspace. Hook up your laptop and all your devices (to the internal 4-port USB hub) and wrap the cords around the coiling pins underneath (the cords can enter at any point all around the station, no need to force it to feed through a particular spot), place the top of your laptop on the station (which makes for a more ergonomic keyboard angle, AND keeps air flowing under the laptop to prevent overheating), and use the rest of the surface space to hold your ipod or other small devices. DIY IR headgear repels security cameras, attracts “security”
Posted Feb 23rd 2008 7:53AM by Donald MelansonFiled under: Misc. Gadgets It’s not the first method we’ve seen for blinding security cameras, but this new DIY / art project from the folks at Oberwelt e.V. looks to be one of the simplest, and one of the few that could conceivably be used on an everyday basis. Dubbed the I-R.A.S.C. (for “infra-redlight against surveillance camera”), the device apparently consists simply of a series of infrared lights connected to a battery, which combine to blot out your face with a slightly unnerving glow.
