USB Owl for your desktop

USB Owl for your desktop

Now here’s yet another desktop toy for you to fool around whenever the boss isn’t looking - this time, it comes in the form of an USB Owl that boasts a fair number of action combinations to keep you entertained. He is able to move his eyeballs all over the place (within the confines of his eyes, of course) as well as rotate his head in an attempt to elicit a chuckle or two from you. Unfortunately, I don’t think forking out $26 for something like this is worth it. Isn’t the USB Whack It so much more entertaining? (Read the full post about ‘USB Owl for your desktop’…)

Sony ICD-B600 For The Budget-conscious
Having a digital voice recorder around can be pretty handy, especially when you want to make impromptu voice notes in order to remember whatever task you have to do in the future. Sony will be making available its ICD-B600 digital voice recorder this April for approximately $40, bringing 512MB of internal flash memory to the masses. That amount is able to provide up to 300 hours of recording time in long playing mode. Other features include a 12/24 hour clock and a couple of AAA batteries to run it. Looks like this is a suitable addition for college students and those suffering from short-term memory. (Read the full post about ‘Sony ICD-B600 For The Budget-conscious’…)

Sony ICF-ClipMK2 for iPhones and iPods
Sony has just introduced a new dock for iphone and iPods, that has the double function of working as an alarm clock - call it the ICF-ClipMK2. In terms of functionality with the Apple products and making life easier for the users, there is a remote control to navigate on the iPhone and ipod menus, so you can easily pick a song, change the volume, etc. As for the alarm clock, it offers 3 ways to wake up: the normal and irritating buzzer, radio, or your favorite songs. While this is a dock made for iPods, you can also connect other players thanks to line-in jack, and the included cable. The Sony ICF-ClipMK2 is priced at $100 and will become available in May. iTunes: over 4 billion served

iTunes: over 4 billion served
Apple announced today that iTunes has become the 2nd largest music retailer trailing Wal-Mart.  Apple states over 4 billion songs have been sold through the service and love to toss around the 20 million served up on Christmas Day 2007.  Apple bases its data on an NPD report. Apple says it has captured 50 million iTunes users, which if my math is correct, means an average of 80 songs per customer.  Does that sound right to you?  I’ve got more than that. Can anyone not see a day when iTunes passes Wal-Mart?  Clearly Apple is dominating in online music sales thanks to their players and the ease of use that is the iTunes experience.  With no independent music store pressure, Apple is reaping the benefits of a virtual monopoly. DIY Compact ECG

DIY Compact ECG
This is one of the tiniest ECGs I’ve ever laid my eyes on, as it consists of an extremely tiny LCD display, a pair of electrodes and an ARM training unit. It is powered by an STM32 Primer chip, where pressing both your thumbs on the two electrodes will begin the ECG trace. Once your pulse is detected, it will beep while showing off the heart rate in a decimal format in the top left hand corner. Hopefully the accuracy of such a simple DIY project can be improved, allowing field personnel to carry a compact and lightweight ECG - that remains but a pipe dream at the moment, so this DIY ECG is relegated to the “fun” category in the meantime. Sony Dumps Ton of New Stuff On Internet, Says “Here, Cover This.”
Do you like product name alphabettorrhea? Sony sure does, having put out so many new gadgets today that the International Alphanumeric Character Fund has had to announce an immediate moratorium on new product announcements. Take the ICF-C1iPMK2. This is a clock radio. Why does a clock radio need a name like that? It goes on and on. As of today, you may now hanker for an NWZ A276, A720 or A820 (and even an A820K!), an MDR NC40, AS40EX or AS100W, an SRS ZX-71, an MDR-EX700LP, an HTCT100, an HT-SS2300 or DWG700, an NHS-130C (which has nothing to do with free health care in England), a PFR-V1, an STR-DG920, and an BDP-S350 (or, for the lavish, an S550). Oh, and you can get a PX-LX300USB. (Read the full post about ‘Sony Dumps Ton of New Stuff On Internet, Says “Here, Cover This.”’…)

Memory Foam MP3 Blackout Shades

Memory Foam MP3 Blackout Shades
The Memory Foam MP3 Blackout Shades not only helps keep your eyes shielded from whatever bright light in the area, it also allows you to chill out to your favorite beach tunes via its integrated speakers by hooking up an mp3 player to it. Of course, many would argue that dropping $25 on this would be rather silly since the same experience can be had without forking out a single penny - all you need to do is blindfold yourself while decked out under the sun and listen to your ipod via its own headphones. Well, I guess you pay for the novelty involved here as well as the memory foam that molds around your face’s contours. (Read the full post about ‘Memory Foam MP3 Blackout Shades’…)

Verizon’s Samsung U940 now “Glyde”

Written by admin on Tuesday, February 26th, 2008 in Gadgets and Devices.

Verizon’s Samsung U940 now “Glyde”
It’s been known for a while that the Samsung F700 is going to be heading to Verizon. We’ve gone through the standard process; heard rumors of it coming, seen it confirmed, and also saw the FCC put it’s big ol’ approval stamp on it. Since Verizon has been on a roll with their naming scheme (Voyager, Venus, Chocolate, Gleam), it’s only appropriate that this phone has one. The first codename was the “Q-Ball.” The new, and more appropriate name, is now the “Glyde.” This comes from the phone having a slide-out QWERTY keyboard like bigger PDA/Smartphones, so it’s only appropriate that it gains that name.
