Hitachi intros short-throw CPX3 WXGA projector
Posted Mar 31st 2008 4:21PM by Donald MelansonFiled under: Displays It looks like Hitachi is aiming to give those normally confined to XGA projectors a bit of a boost, with its new CPX3 model not only boasting a slightly more home theater friendly WXGA (1280 x 800) resolution, but some short-throw capabilities as well. Exactly how short that throw is isn’t clear, however, with Hitachi only going so far as to describe the projector as boasting a wide-angle lens that’ll let you use it “close to the screen with no obstructions.” Apart from that, the 3.9-pound projector is fairly standard fare, with it packing 2,000 lumens of brightness, HDMI input, and a built-in 1 watt speaker, along with some security measures sure to please more business-minded types. Folding LCD Monitor to add a lot of real estate

Folding LCD Monitor to add a lot of real estate

More and more geeks are going to a dual monitor setup to not only provide for me monitor space (real estate), but also because it allows for placing tools and uilties on one screen, while the second screen can be used as an actual interface for editing, drawing and other creative endeavors. Sadly, though, because these monitors are separate entitles, one has to deal with the encasement on both interfering with the unbroken image that can move across both screens. That is, until now. If it gets picked up by a manufacturer, this Double-Sided Transforming LCD Display will enable for an unbroken wide screen image, that can also double as a second separate screen. Wow. LG Vu, official specs released
The official specs for the LG Vu are in and it seems the recent speculation about two versions was correct. The Vu will be available as the CU920 with TV support and the CU915 without TV support. Both models will, of course, feature the large 3-inch WQVGA 262K color touchscreen. Other features that are shared between both models is 3G support, a 2-megapixel camera and HTML web browser. The Vu has just 120MB of internal memory, but also has a microSD slot with support for up to 4GB of additional storage. The Vu measures in at 4.25 x 2.16 x 0.51-inches and weighs just 3.16-ounces. The included 1000mAh battery is stated to give up to 3-hours of talk time. (Read the full post about ‘LG Vu, official specs released’…)

Nokia WiMAX N810 appears in the wild
Posted Mar 31st 2008 3:47PM by Nilay PatelFiled under: Handhelds The WiMAX version of Nokia’s N810 internet tablet has already popped up on Nokia’s European site, lending creedence to all those whispers about a CTIA debut tomorrow, and now we’ve got units showing up in the wild, which is probably a good sign. There were apparently some other shots of this bad boy on Flickr, but they’ve since been removed — let’s hope tomorrow brings us some official beauty shots, eh?Tags: gaming, Hi-fi, hi fi, digital (Read the full post about ‘Nokia WiMAX N810 appears in the wild’…)

Review: Viking: Battle for Asgard
Viking: Battle for Asgard has been on Geek.com’s radar since late last year during SEGA’s Winter Wonderland. At that time, we just got to watch and admire the game. Later, at SEGA’s Sweet Celebration, we got a chance to get some hands-on time with the title. But for as excited as we were for Viking to come out, it’s hard to believe how much better the game is than previews would seem to indicate. Read on to find out why you’ll want to join in on the Norse madness. Graphically, Viking: Battle for Asgard is quite impressive. It’s not just that you get to hack bad guys into little bits, decapitate them, amputate body parts, and otherwise cause them misery. (Read the full post about ‘Review: Viking: Battle for Asgard’…)

Steve Jobs Rendered In Apple Products

Steve Jobs Rendered In Apple Products
This portrait of Steve Jobs is made up entirely of Apple products, up to and including the macbook air. Sure, Charis Tsevis’ portrait (a commission for Fortune Magazine) isn’t the most original of approaches, but the combination of the prosaic mosaic and the Soviet propaganda-style photograph seems somehow appropriate for the notorious control-freak Jobs. Bow down before your master. NOW. Huge, full sized image [Flickr via Geekologie] Tags: tests, mobile phone, Gadget, gaming (Read the full post about ‘Steve Jobs Rendered In Apple Products’…)

Canon Shifts Digital Lens Production to Taiwan

Canon Shifts Digital Lens Production to Taiwan
If proof were needed that digital photography is hot business, Canon is seeing such demand for its digital SLR lenses that it has run out of capacity in its Japanese factories and will be starting production in Taiwan. Those of you worried that a move away from home could compromise quality: Don’t. Canon already makes lenses for film cameras in Taiwan, and these are necessarily of a higher quality (due to the larger image area of film over all but the highest end DSLRs). The first lines will be making Canon’s IS, or Image Stabilization, lenses. (Read the full post about ‘Canon Shifts Digital Lens Production to Taiwan’…)
