New camera may revolutionize public security systems

Written by admin on Tuesday, March 11th, 2008 in Gadgets and Devices.

The U.K. company ThruVision has developed a new camera, called the T5000, which has the potential to revolutionize security systems in public places such as airports and train stations.

The reason the camera is gaining so much attention is since it contains imaging technology that allows it to detect explosives, liquid narcotics, weapons, plastics, and ceramics hidden under clothing. Not only that, but it can detect them up to 25 meters away and while subjects are moving.

The camera is seen as a way to better monitor a range of busy locations due to its range and ability to cope with moving objects.

Limited Edition Olympus Mju 1020
If you’re into collecting limited edition items, then the Olympus Mju 1200 should be taken into consideration since there will only be 5,000 of such units available. Each of these limited edition digital cameras feature uniquely-styled skins by internationally-acclaimed artist Matei Apostolescu, and I suspect you will probably keep this safe and sound at home instead of subjecting it to the rigors of everyday use. Other than the external aesthetic changes, everything else inside the Olympus Mju 1020 remains the same. (Read the full post about ‘Limited Edition Olympus Mju 1020′…)

Why Hotspots and WiFi shouldn’t die

Written by admin on Tuesday, March 11th, 2008 in Gadgets and Devices.

Why Hotspots and WiFi shouldn’t die
I am not buying into Ericsson’s CMO Johan Bergendahl’s comments regarding the future of WiFi.  Mr. Bergendahl is quoted as saying WiFi hot spots are going the way of the dodo bird, that is, extinct in the near future.  Perhaps in Europe this is readily becoming the case thanks to a densely populated landscape.  But WiFi Hotspots shouldn’t die over this.  Here is why: Costs.  Every time a manufacturer puts in EVDO or HSPA capabilities it creates a brand new revenue opportunity from its user.  In Mr. Bergendahl’s vision, who by the way works for the company who would/will/is getting rich from this scenario, our phone will have one connection, our laptop another, our desktop another still.  This forces all 3 units (phone, laptop, desktop) to have their own separate accounts. Review: Palm’s GSM Centro Smartphone Is All Business All the Time
The Palm Centro is like the friend you call when you need to be bailed out of jail: Reliable, smart and capable of getting the job done. But its dependable nature also means it’s not exactly the handset you want to party with. Now offered by AT&T in a GSM flavor, the pocket-size, easy-to-use Centro handles messaging (IM, texting, personal and corporate e-mails) and light office tasks with graceful aplomb. Apps like viewing PDFs, creating Word files and listening to MP3s are handled swiftly and easily. Simple web pages (like craigslist) loaded quickly but bright colorful ones (like Wired.com’s) stalled and hiccupped on the Centro’s screen. MSI to take on the Eee PC with the Wind Laptop
Rumored to cost around $500 or higher, The MSI Wind will be the newest ultra-portable laptop in direct competition with the recently announced 9-inch wonder from Asus. The MSI Wind, unveiled at CeBIT 2008, will come with Intel’s new Atom chip, 1GB of RAM as default and a 6-cell battery that could last roughly 6 to 7 hours. It’s bound to run on either Linux or Windows, offers a 10-inch display and the option to get fitted with either a 2.5-inch HDD or SSD, depending on user preference. All that’s available right now are just profile shots from the MSI booth, with no sign of the general user interface (or even a power on screen) yet. Its A Me, A Mario Wii Case Mod!

Its A Me, A Mario Wii Case Mod!
Check out this Wii case mod that will definitely send Mario fans over the moon (although he has already traversed the vast breadth and length in Super Mario Galaxy). The Mario figure has been sculpted out of clay and fixed to the Wii’s side panel, where painting the rest of the case helps the figure blend right into his environment. It looks good enough to it, and on the other side of the case lies a pipe that doubles up as a Wii remote charger. The front of the decorated base also features an additional USB port and an LED mushroom that lights up whenever it is in use. (Read the full post about ‘Its A Me, A Mario Wii Case Mod!’…)

InFocus 1080p DLP Play Big IN83 projector gets official
Posted Mar 11th 2008 8:00AM by Darren MurphFiled under: Displays, HDTV, Home Entertainment While we had every reason to believe that InFocus had another swank 1080p projector waiting to be unleashed last month, it’s always good to see a little reassurance from the outfit itself. As of today, the Play Big IN83 is really real, and it’s looking to deliver Full HD imagery to your screen later this month. Packed with TI’s DarkChip4 DLP chip, this unit sports a native 5,000:1 contrast ratio, 1,600 ANSI lumens, HDMI 1.3, Pixelworks DNX 10-bit video processing and 2.35:1 Cinemascope / widescreen aspect ratio support for good measure. The pain? $5,999 through “exclusive InFocus resellers and installers.” Check out the gallery over (Read the full post about ‘InFocus 1080p DLP Play Big IN83 projector gets official’…)

The bionic chameleon truck

Written by admin on Tuesday, March 11th, 2008 in Gadgets and Devices.

The bionic chameleon truck
At present the tendency to draw inspiration from the nature is quite popular. So wise designers like Haishang Deng try to find innovational solutions by studying what nature has already done. An absolutely new Chameleon truck was designed just in the same way. His invention represents a bionic cargo transport that uses an innovative segmented body remarkably like that of a centipede. This enables the truck to adjust its size to the cargo load. In addition to the fact that the resilient soft tarpaulin shelled body is strong enough to protect its cargo, it also absorbs impacts in case of accidents. Moreover due to the materials used in its production the weight of this truck is twice smaller than that of its counterparts, and as a consequence it saves a lot of fuel.
