LED jacket gives bike riders added safety

LED jacket gives bike riders added safety
Sure, you’ve heard of an LED hat, LED belt, or even ridiculous looking LED glasses. But here is one of the Geeky, yet useful LED items that could help bike riders stay a little safer on the streets and potentially out of the hospitals. The LED bike jacket is a creation of Leah Buechley. It uses e-textile tech, called a LilyPad Arduino, which allows technology to be sewn into clothing and won’t be destroyed in the wash. The function of the LED jacket is to inform other riders or drivers where the biker is turning–just like a turn signal on a car. The obvious benefit is that the LED arrows on the jacket are much larger and easier to see on the riders back than those that could be installed on a bike itself. West Philly High preps plug-in hybrid in bid for Auto X Prize
Posted Mar 21st 2008 3:02PM by Paul MillerFiled under: Transportation While we spent our high school days trying not to cut our thumbs off in shop class, these West Philly High School kids have been making a run on the $10 million Automotive X Prize. Last we checked we actually weren’t in the Twilight Zone, but quite frankly, the bigwigs at Gibson just might be. Seemingly out of nowhere, the famed guitar manufacturer sparked up a lawsuit against Activision claiming that Guitar Hero titles violate one of its patents. Now the company appears to be on the warpath, suing Wal-Mart, Target, GameStop, Amazon, Toys ‘R’ Us and Kmart in an attempt to get the game off of store shelves. XM-I goes Wireless

XM-I goes Wireless
XM-I of Singapore are keeping themselves occupied as they have just revealed information on a wireless version of the next generation X-mini Capsule Speaker. There is no word on whether this new speaker will rely on Bluetooth or radio frequency to get audio signals across, but at least you don’t have to worry about tangled mess (although new worries light sound quality and a shorter battery life do come into play). Judging by it’s size, I would say there isn’t much point in harboring too much hope on the X-mini speakers to pump out audio at a decent volume and quality. Meant for casual use at best. Dell reacts quickly to SSD failure claims with facts

Written by admin on Friday, March 21st, 2008 in Gadgets and Devices.

Earlier this week, Avi Cohen, of research company Avian Securities, suggested that a large PC vendor was seeing up to 20% of laptops with SSDs being returned due to failures and poor performance. It did not state which company it was referring to directly, but Dell seemed to be the likely candidate.

Dell has now hit back about suggestions it is the company seeing such high return rates through its blog. An excerpt from the entry is re-printed below:

Here’s the real story: the 20 - 30% failure and return rates cited by Avian Securities don’t even vaguely resemble what’s happening in our business.

Up close with Dell’s Latitude E4300 and E4200 ultra-portables with DisplayPort
Posted Mar 21st 2008 7:19AM by Thomas RickerFiled under: Laptops Ultra-portables are by the far the sexiest class of laptops. Especially when they start at just 2.2-pounds (1kg) like Dell’s upcoming 12.1-inch E4200 or 3-pounds for the 13.3-inch E4300. Both pack LED backlit displays; Centrino 2 chipsets; Firewire, eSATA, 2x audio, ExpressCard 34, and at least 2x USB ports; integrated UMA graphics; DDR3 800MHz with Intel Turbo Memory 2.0; DisplayPort; and a host of security features to keep corporate IT types happy. The E4300 differs with a higher WXGA+ resolution, modular optical bay, peppier CPU options, and a choice of beefier hard disk drives instead of the 32GB or 64GB SSD restriction of the E4200. Martha Stewart: MacBook Owner or PR Shill?

Martha Stewart: MacBook Owner or PR Shill?
Everybody’s favorite jailbird and homemaker, Martha Stewart, has gotten herself a macbook air. Of course, the fanboys have already stepped in with advice (dump your HP laptop! Use Parallels!) but the interesting thing is just how much like an Apple Press release is her blog post. Check it: I was so excited when my new MacBook Air arrived the other day. When I opened the box and examined this laptop, I was amazed by how razor thin and how light it is – just .76 of an inch and only 3 pounds. It has a full-size illuminated keyboard, which is terrific for working in a dimly lit car or on an airplane. And I really love the trackpad, which works in much the same way as the Apple iphone, giving you many more options by simply moving your fingers.
