Thinkware iNAVI K2’s 3D maps are just like being there
Posted Mar 27th 2008 10:25AM by Paul MillerFiled under: GPS Looking out the window while driving is way overrated. The new hotness, in Korea at least, is super-detailed 3D maps that leave nothing of your route to the imagination. Thinkware’s iNAVI K2 is just such a device, with purty 3D graphics showing up on its 4.8-inch 800 x 480 screen. There’s 8GB of memory, 256MB of RAM, and a fancy “geomagnetic 3-axis sensor” that helps keep mapping on track, but face it, you’re going to buy this to see if they mapped your house. Kodak intros new EasyShare photo frames with Quick Touch borders
Posted Mar 27th 2008 12:42PM by Donald MelansonFiled under: Displays It’s been a little while since we caught sight of Kodak’s last batch of digital photo frames, but the company’s now come back for another go ’round with a trio of new EasyShare frames, each of which pack Kodak’s newfangled “Quick Touch” borders. That feature lets you scroll though photos simply by sliding your finger along the border, as well as giving you control over all the frame’s other functions via the interface pictured above. Apart from that, the frames appear to be pretty standard fare, with the M820 and M1020 models boasting 8 and 10-inch screens, respectively, along with the usual audio and video support, 128MB of built-in memory, and accommodations for all the most used memory card formats. Review: Logitech Wireless Music Streamer Spreads Media, Joy
Logitech Squeezebox Duet Logitech’s little black box liberates your music collection from the confines of your PC, streaming it via Wi-Fi to your Hi-Fi (or powered speakers). It also streams from Rhapsody, Pandora, Slacker, internet radio stations, local radio stations, and can even pull down podcasts and RSS feeds. A sweet iPod-style remote controls all the action. Sound like any other magic music box you know? Yep, the Squeezebox Duet challenges the much pricier Sonos Digital Music System for in-home streaming supremacy, and almost comes away the winner. But not quite. Setup is about as fun as getting glass shards stuck in your eye — especially if you configure Logitech’s SqueezeCenter software to tap your iTunes library. Comcast, BitTorrent Promise to Play Nice

Written by admin on Thursday, March 27th, 2008 in Gadgets and Devices.

Comcast, which prevented the BitTorrent file sharing system from working properly on its network and lied about it, will now "work together" with BT as part of Comcast’s reinvention, reports the Wall Street Journal.

"The companies are in talks to collaborate on ways to run BitTorrent’s technology more smoothly on Comcast’s broadband network, and allow Comcast to transport video files more effectively over its own network in the future, said Tony Warner, Comcast’s chief technology officer."

Comcast ultimately confessed to interfering with the bandwidth-sucking protocol, but presented its misbehavior as a form of quality assurance and management— which was precisely the kind of network engineering newspeak that Network Neutrality nerds always said they’d end up excusing anticompetitive behavior with.

iHome’s iH69 computer / iPod speakers

Written by admin on Thursday, March 27th, 2008 in Gadgets and Devices.

iHome’s iH69 computer / iPod speakers
We’ve seen a number of ipod speakers with pass-through dock connectors, but we’ve never really understood the point — why would we listen to music on our iPod when we’re already sitting at the computer, which has better speakers? iHome’s latest rig, the iH69, tries to bring it all together, though, with an iPod dock integrated directly into a set of upright computer speakers. We’re not sold on the idea until we actually hear ‘em — or we get a sub in the deal — but those of you looking to save on some cable clutter should look for these bad boys to drop sometime in June.
