Engadget’s New Summer Look: Magenta

Engadget’s New Summer Look: Magenta
After hearing that Engadget was (on April Fools day, yes) threatened by T-Mobile/Deutsch Telekom, I was tempted to slap up the recolored Gadget Lab logo we cooked up the last time T-Mob’s owners claimed ownership of the color magenta. However, it looks like Eng has things well under control. Even if it does remind us that Magenta is perhaps the last color anyone in their right might would want to trademark. LG Vu for AT&T finally gets all official

LG Vu for AT&T finally gets all official
As expected, the LG Vu gets official today, following the recently released official specs and the speculation that it’s going to come in two different versions. Although AT&T could not be kind enough to include pricing info yet, it does say that the LG Vu will be available in May. It’s also confirmed to come in two versions, one that has mobile TV support, and another one that does not. It boasts a full HTML Web browser coupled with HSDPA 3G. And with a haptic-enabled touchscreen-based user interface, you’ve got yourself another one of those iphone wannabes. But I think it’s best not to judge the LG Vu on paper, and as always, it would be better to see how well it performs in real life. Intel reveals June launch date for first Atom processor
Posted Apr 1st 2008 4:21PM by Donald MelansonFiled under: LaptopsWe’ve already heard about some of Intel’s future Atom plans, and heard just how little it’ll apparently cost the company to produce ‘em, but now thanks to a PDF kindly let loose by the chipmaker, we finally have some official word as to when we can actually expect to see ‘em. As UMPC Portal reports, the PDF released in conjunction with the currently-happening Intel Developer Forums indicates that the processor will get a worldwide launch this June, which is a tad later than some had expected. Dynamo Green Keyboard

Dynamo Green Keyboard
The £59.99 Dynamo Green Keyboard is pretty interesting, as it helps you lower your monthly power bills as long as you keep on typing. The main reason being it boasting the capability of harnessing the power of kinetic energy when typing on it, turning the energy into electricity which can then help power the computer which you’re using at the moment. Sounds pretty far out, eh? I’m not too sure with today’s high powered PCs, even typing an unachievable 1,000 words per minute won’t be enough to keep your processor juiced. How much can you actually save anyways? I think this is more of a marketing gimmick than anything else. (Read the full post about ‘Dynamo Green Keyboard’…)

Rota-Star USB 2.0 hub

Rota-Star USB 2.0 hub
I don’t know if it’s because I haven’t had a desktop computer in nearly 10 years (I can’t wean myself off of notebooks and UMPCs), but I have absolutely no use for a USB hub. My current notebook, a Sony Vaio TZ, is equipped with only two USB 2.0 ports and I’ve never had a need or even wished for another one. That’s why I had no idea there was so much innovation going on in the world of USB hubs. This Rota-Star hub from Gadget4All.com, for example, features twistable ports that can be turned 180 degrees to form a handful of shapes and designs. Wow! Available now for $12. Apple In Newer, More Ridiculous Monitor Color Lawsuit

Written by admin on Tuesday, April 1st, 2008 in Gadgets and Devices.

Apple In Newer, More Ridiculous Monitor Color Lawsuit
Just days after settling the “millions of colors” lawsuit over its LCD monitors, Apple is facing yet another frivolous suit about claims for its flat panels. According to the Apple Insider, the class-action lawsuit wants satisfaction for marketing claims. That’s right. Apple’s iMac product blurb says that “No matter what you like to do on your computer — watch movies, edit photos, play games, even just view a screen saver — it’s going to look stunning on an iMac.” Law firm Kabateck Brown Kellner disagrees, saying that the 20″ iMac uses cheaper 6 bit film in its LCD and is “particularly ill-suited [for] editing photographs”. It also says that this use of cheaper components in the cheaper computer is gouging customers. (Read the full post about ‘Apple In Newer, More Ridiculous Monitor Color Lawsuit’…)

Sega dissolves Korean subsidiary, nixing $330m Yokohama arcade complex
Posted Apr 1st 2008 1:21AM by Darren MurphFiled under: Gaming Aside from planning to axe 400 jobs as part of Sega Sammy’s most recent “turnaround efforts,” the outfit will also be closing the doors to its Korean subsidiary. Currently, Sega Korea is “handling the domestic distribution and sales of video game software, as well as the operation / sales of amusement facilities and machines,” and reportedly, the closure will be executed in the name of “global business optimization.” As it stands, there’s no set date for the branch’s dissolution, but just in case your smile wasn’t turned upside-down already, the company also stated that it would discontinue the development of a ginormous $330m arcade complex slated for construction in Yokohama, Japan — if you couldn’t guess, that one’s being shuttered so the firm can “focus its efforts on its core business to improve its performance” in short order.
