Vodafone UK adds Samsung SGH-F490 to its lineup
The Samsung SGH-F490 is the latest device to land on Vodafone UK’s handset lineup, and promises to add yet another great option for those looking for a multimedia-centric phone. It has a lot of similarities to the recently introduced Samsung Instinct, but know that the SGH-F490 has some interesting features of its own. The Samsung SGH-F490 is a touch-enabled device with a 3.2-inch display capable of showing up to 262k colors. It sports a very minimalist design with only a few hot keys on its front face and a lone speaker for voice calls. And unlike the iphone, the SGH-F490 is 3G enabled. Chew on it Apple. Company Sells Access to Behind-the-Scenes Wal-Mart Footage

Company Sells Access to Behind-the-Scenes Wal-Mart Footage
Wal-Mart has the largest repository of recorded video on the planet. It just so happens that not all of it is in the retail giant’s control. In particular, one production company is sitting on a vast treasure trove of Wal-Mart footage and has decided to start using these video archives to make a little cash on the side. Flagler Productions, who recorded countless hours of internal Wal-Mart meetings from the 1970s through 2006, was fired two years ago. While that move effectively cut off most of the company’s revenue stream, Flagler discovered there are actually plenty of people out there interested in viewing such material — especially if it involves managers prancing about in drag at an executive meeting. Microsoft to Open Retail Stores?

Microsoft to Open Retail Stores?
Microsoft is reportedly looking into opening retail stores. Selling expensive stuff to consumers has a lot to do with hands-on experience and branding and that is exactly what Microsoft hopes to boost. Microsoft products currently sell through a channel of partners and retailers, but you can imagine that there’s no “Microsoft Experience” there… One can imagine that software, video games, consoles, music players plus accessories will be part of the mix. Now what about releasing a music player or a phone that’s cool? (Read the full post about ‘Microsoft to Open Retail Stores?’…)

Samsung Ace Review - InfoSync

Samsung Ace Review - InfoSync
InfoSync reviews the Samsung Ace and writes, “If you are already using Windows Media player to manage all of your music and videos, the Samsung Ace will play nicely with your setup. Of course, the memory slot tops out at 2GB, which is less than we’re seeing on the newest smartphones, but not too bad. For multimedia services, Sprint goes about halfway, maybe less, giving the phone access to Sprint TV, but not the Sprint Music store, which is unfortunate, or the more rarified Sprint Movie store. The phone paired easily with our stereo Bluetooth headphones, but we would always prefer a standard 3.5mm headphone jack so we can use any pair of cans we have lying around.” Read more about the Samsung Ace. Nikon P80 Camera with 18x Optical Zoom
When it comes to digital cameras, it’s fair to say that everybody likes the idea of a powerful zoom! That’s why Nikon added a whopping 18x optical zoom (27-486mm equivalent) that could prove very useful in many situations (wildlife, crowds…). Of course, with such a zoom comes some form of image stabilization to compensate for your body’s motion. Also, we like the fact that you can shoot 30 consecutive images at 13 frames per second. The Nikon P80 is a 10.1 Megapixel camera. Tags: speaker, Ogg, CD, MP3 (Read the full post about ‘Nikon P80 Camera with 18x Optical Zoom’…)

Nokia 6555 Review - InfoSync

Nokia 6555 Review - InfoSync
InfoSync reviews the Nokia 6555 and writes, “The built-in camera–despite having a 1.3 megapixel sensor (1280 x 960 resolution)–was atrocious, with poor light management, blurry edges and an overall lack of clarity in any conditions. We also had trouble sending photos to our computer using Bluetooth.” Read more about the Nokia 6555. Web changes rules for new music: One artists perspective

Web changes rules for new music: One artists perspective
It is no secret that MySpace has completely changed the music scene.  Arguably, the artists MySpace music page is more important than their website.  But other sites are creeping up and taking advantage of something MySpace has not mastered:  new music. Sites like thesixtyone.com and others are helping new artists get noted.  By allowing voting and an incentive to listen to new stuff, these sites are creating fans for little known acts from all over the world.  Take Temple Scene, a two person ensemble from the UK.  Their songs have done very well on thesixtyone.com and on MySpace.  I had the chance to get the bands input on the value of other sites that focus on new music. Bizarre campaign texts parents to check for lice in kids’ hair
by Darren Murph, posted Apr 10th 2008 at 2:10PMIf you thought sending a SMS in order to gain entry into a public bathroom was on the weird side, get a load of this. An outlandish campaign sparked up in the UK has been sending out weekly text messages to parents in order to remind them of the need to check for head lice on their youngsters. Cleverly coined Beat the Bugs, the program led to the discovery of six cases of lice, and when polling participants at the end of the term, the majority stated that they felt more aware about treatment / prevention and that they were now checking their kids’ heads at least once per week. We can hear it now: “C’mon Jimmy, time for me to look through your locks for any critters!” (Read the full post about ‘Bizarre campaign texts parents to check for lice in kids’ hair’…)
