Video Surveillance for your Mobile

Written by admin on Monday, April 14th, 2008 in Gadgets and Devices.

ConnectVu is a CCTV system which allows you to monitor video from CCTV cameras on your mobile. If your mobile phone is capable of GPRS, GSM or 3G then you will be able to access, and control the CCTV cameras over the air. The software is Java, so a compatible phone would have to be used. By moving control of the CCTV cameras to your mobile phone, it allows you to track security where ever you are. The software on the phone allows you to switch between 16 different cameras and control where the cameras are pointing to allow you to get a better shot of who is breaking in to your premises.

The ConnectVu system can support up to four video cameras per capture card, and the system can use 4 capture cards making a total of 16 cameras being supported.

Controlling Contrast On Digital Pictures

Controlling Contrast On Digital Pictures
Filed in archive Tip by jim on April 14, 2008 "Contrast" is the difference in color and light between parts of an image. If all parts of a photograph, be it color or B&W, were completely and equally illuminated, or at the same "brightness" level, nothing would stand out in the image. There would be no point of interest, no "pop" to the subject, it would appear "flat", which describes a lack of contrast in a picture. I happen to be a fan of higher contrast photography; but many people prefer less "edge" and a softer effect. The picture above, depending on how it appears on your computer monitor, is an example of how I like a picture to look, in terms of contrast. Google Android on an HTC Touch Dual

Written by admin on Monday, April 14th, 2008 in Gadgets and Devices.

Don’t like the standard Windows Mobile that ships with your HTC Touch Dual? Give this post over at Coolsmartphone a look. It features two videos of a Touch Dual running a ROM put out by XDA-Developers. It’s a bit buggy and crashes during the video a couple of times but you get an early taste of what the world will soon see. I love seeing operating systems running on machines that they weren’t designed for.

Toshiba unveils 128GB SSD Portege R500-12Q notebook
Toshiba has added a new notebook to its product catalog, the Portege R500-12Q. The new Toshiba notebook is being touted by the company as the world’s lightest notebook weighing just a mere 2.15-pounds (by standard notebook weight, which pretty much is light indeed). Toshiba is also brandishing the Portege R500-12Q as the only notebook with the slimmest optical drive at 7mm, the world’s first notebook with the transflective LED 12.1-inch widescreen display and one of the world’s thinnest notebooks at 0.76/1.0-inches in height. Aside from being the first in so many notebook aspects, it will be important to note the Portege R500-12Q is packed with a whooping 128GB SSD. Ziszor - Portable Paper Shredder

Written by admin on Monday, April 14th, 2008 in Gadgets and Devices.

Ziszor - Portable Paper Shredder
In the “is this really necessary” department, you’ll find the Ziszor handheld paper shredder. Everything in this day and age gets miniaturized, huh? The perfect use of this gadget for those on-the-go execs who need to shred ATM receipts or perhaps those guys in the West Wing who only seem to get information via little pieces of paper which they promptly eat. Kidding. But if they had a Ziszor, no more indigestion. The Ziszor is 10″ long and weighs less than 1.5lbs, nice and light. It also has an attachable plastic bag to catch all those little shreddings. Is that a word? Runs on 4 AA batteries which is probably where a lot of the weight lies. (Read the full post about ‘Ziszor - Portable Paper Shredder’…)

Internet safety classes required in Virginia schools

Written by admin on Monday, April 14th, 2008 in Gadgets and Devices.

Internet safety classes required in Virginia schools
The State of Virginia is reportedly mandating that Internet safety classes be offered in all public schools in all levels. This is the first in the US as a measure to protect young web users especially those in the primary levels. Since there are a great number of children getting victimized by perverts and sex offenders, this particular concern caused an alarm resulting to the recent mandate released by the Virginia government. A study by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in 2006 revealed that almost 13% of 10-17 years old Internet users receive sexual solicitations from unknown preys. The neoprene inner shell provides shock-absorbing qualities as it cradles the Mini-Note PC. A loop at one end lets users hold the SleeveCase so the Mini-Note PC can be easily retrieved.

Adobe Announces CinemaDNG: An Open RAW Format For Video

Written by admin on Monday, April 14th, 2008 in Gadgets and Devices.

Adobe Announces CinemaDNG: An Open RAW Format For Video
Adobe wants to do the same for video as it did for print documents and RAW camera files. The new CinemaDNG (digital negative) format was announced today at the NAB show in Las Vegas, and promises to simplify video editing for professionals, as well as bringing some kind of standards to the amateur. Like the DNG format, and PDF before it, CinemaDNG will be an open standard, free for manufacturers to implement, and also like DNG, it will improve compatibility between RAW video files from various hardware and software vendors. Many of the big names are already on board: Panavision, Silicon Imaging, Dalsa, Weisscam, and ARRI. This is good news. Adobe appears to be opening up. microSD Memory Card Projector

Written by admin on Monday, April 14th, 2008 in Gadgets and Devices.

microSD Memory Card Projector
Now this is definitely a special projector by all accounts, as it is capable of projecting content loaded onto a microSD memory card, hence its relatively compact size. While you won’t get full HD images plastered on your wall, at least you don’t have to break a shoulder carrying it around. If you don’t have any media on your microSD card, fret not. It is capable of accepting a standard RCA input from a game console, DVD player or an equivalent. Powered by a quartet of AA batteries, the microSD Memory Card Projector retails for $197 each and is capable of projecting images up to 40″ x 33″. No idea why the memory card shown here looks more like a regular SD card though. (Read the full post about ‘microSD Memory Card Projector’…)
