Seiko SlimStick
A pedometer is a pedometer is a pedometer, right? Wrong! The Seiko SlimStick certainly brings about a whole new dimension to your day-to-day exercise regime as it boasts modern dual-axis accelerometers that track the magnitude of your movements, providing greater value to a more intensive exercise. All you need to do is clip the SlimStick onto your clothes or place it in your pocket and you’re good to go. The SlimStick is able to count the number of calories burned throughout the day, the length of time you were active, total number of steps walked and an overall exercise quality score. It has enough memory to hold up to a dozen weeks’ worth of summarized data which you can refer to. (Read the full post about ‘Seiko SlimStick’…)

Nokia announces 3 new mid-range phones; 6600 Fold, 6600 Slide, 3600 Slide
It just last week when Nokia introduced the 5220 and 5320 and we now see another three hitting the market. This time its the 6600 Fold, 6600 Slide and the 3600 Slide. Nokia is promoting the new handsets as “beautiful to use” which would make on think that these new handsets have nothing much to offer except for an eye-pleasing design. True to the tagline, the first two phones which bear the same model number 6600 are your usual Nokia mid-range mobile handsets with nothing much to offer in terms of high-end functionality. Well, aside from the 3G support in the 6600 Fold and a 3.2-megapixel camera in the 6600 Slide. Even the GPS functionality of the 6600 is not an inherent feature but an optional one instead. Global phone shipments up, Motorola down

Written by admin on Monday, April 28th, 2008 in Gadgets and Devices.

It doesn’t look like the worldwide mobile phone market is going to slow down anytime soon. IDC is reporting that its Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker is showing that mobile phone shipments are up 14.3% compared to the same quarter last year. Now shipments are down 11.6% from last quarter, but that’s expected considering last quarter included the holiday season which typically sees higher shipments.

Not a huge shock was the fact that Nokia was once again the top vendor grabbing a 39.6% share of the market. That includes 26.8% growth compared to 1Q07.

Video Recorder For iPhone

Video Recorder For iPhone
IPhone Video Recorder, although crippled into uselessness in its free from, at least adds functionality that should have been in the iPhone from the beginning. The application uses the iphone’s still camera to record video. The CPU overhead means that recording and encoding video at the same time is too much for the little phone’s chip and frame rates drop. The solution is to record and then encode afterwards, and this creates admirably small files; around 60MB per for an hour’s worth of video (clip below). Sound is recorded alongside the video, and the results need to be emailed to get them off the phone. The crippled functionality I mentioned? The free version will only record clips of up to 30 seconds. (Read the full post about ‘Video Recorder For iPhone’…)

Brando’s 3-port USB hub, no power brick required

Brando’s 3-port USB hub, no power brick required
Brando, while they may offer some very off-the-wall products also have some items that are very useful. The latest falling in to the useful category is the USB 3-Port Hub + Mini-USB Cable, which as the name implies is a USB hub that that offers three regular USB ports as well as one mini USB port. The nice part here, aside from the low $12 price tag, is that the hub does not require any additional power, it gets the required power from two USB ports on the computer. Looks to me like it would make the perfect additional cable for the road warrior type, now they can plug in up to 3 USB devices instead of two and also charge another with the mini USB.
