Electric-powered airplane charges fast as a cellphone, flies
To combat air pollution, noise pollution, and the constant rise of gas and oil prices everywhere, a little-known company called Pipistrel started work on possibly the world’s first commercial electric powered light aircraft, and they’re calling it the Taurus Electro. It’s a kick-butt two-seat ultralight aircraft with a 15 meter wing-span and is also intended for glider pilots. Right now, they’re still few steps behind completing the project but if they keep on it, the Taurus Electro just might start hitting runways everywhere by the end of 2008. Tine Tomazic, the company’s test pilot, has confirmed that Pipistrel indeed has the technology to create such a thing already in their hands. Review: Freakishly Slim Mouse Goes Where Other Peripherals Can’t
Kensington SlimBlade Trackball MouseNo, the SlimBlade is not some vampire movie with Wesley Snipes (he’s going to jail anyhow) but this aerodynamic, sleekly designed, periphreal is decidedly sharp. It’s also a tad schizoid. And that’s a good thing. What I am crazy about is that with the touch of a button on top of this mini-sized travel mouse its smooth-gliding scroll wheel transforms into a responsive trackball. Finally there’s a pointing device for your notebook that works in tight spaces – you know, like the miniscule drop-down tables on airplanes — and is as comfortable to use as the larger desktop mice I’m more accustomed to. Meant for casual use where PC gaming, audio and DVD playback are concerned. It comes in an aluminum finish and is accompanied by a compact wireless remote controller. Intel and Cray to Collaborate on a New Line of Supercomputers
As one of the mainstays in supercomputing, Cray has been cozying up to AMD in recent years and increasingly relying on the chipmaker’s Opteron server processors to power its latest supercomputers. But if a new partnership between Cray and AMD’s main rival is any indication, that chummy relationship may now be in jeopardy. Intel and Cray have announced a new multi-year agreement where the chipmaker will provide both chips and “silicon expertise” to Cray, which will in turn design a new line of supercomputers and servers based on the Intel’s Xeon chips. Manodo’s screen gives apartment dwellers the 411
by Darren Murph, posted Apr 29th 2008 at 9:44AM Those looking for another good reason to set up camp in Sweden have just found it. Okay, so maybe Manodo’s oh-so-informative display isn’t that astonishing, but it certainly gives a select few apartment residents in the country access to an enviable amount of information. Reportedly, the screen is being installed in several Swedish cities as part of a larger pilot project, and aside from dishing out details about the next available train, who exactly is standing outside their building and how much energy folks are currently consuming, it also serves up data on how many pounds of CO2 you’re responsible for releasing while kicking back in your pad.
