Panasonic SC-BT100 Home Theater System

Written by admin on Friday, May 9th, 2008 in Gadgets and Devices.

Panasonic SC-BT100 Home Theater System
Panasonic wants to keep us entertained with the SC-BT100 home theater system that features a special connection to external devices, including a video recorder or console, turning this into the media center of any home. You also get a Blu-ray player thrown into the mix, although it supports just Profile 1.1 which misses out on all the extra-licious features on 2.0. Since it functions wirelessly, there should be no worries about tripping over while you’re serving drinks to your guests in the living room. The Panasonic SC-BT100 was released in the US for $999 this spring, and it ought to hit Europe pretty soon. (Read the full post about ‘Panasonic SC-BT100 Home Theater System’…)

Lessons learned from dot-com entrepreneurs

Written by admin on Friday, May 9th, 2008 in Gadgets and Devices.

What lessons can we learn from founders of companies that either made a lot of money in the dot-com days or should have and missed the opportunity? A new book by Sarah Lacy, “Once You’re Lucky, Twice You’re Good”, aims to show us by including lessons from Marc Andreessen and other notables from companies like Digg, Facebook, PayPal, and others.

If you’re looking for some instant lessons now, CNNMoney put together lessons learned from four New York City dot-com guys who are making a Web 2.0 play.

Ubuntu gets ported to Sharp Zaurus PDAs
by Donald Melanson, posted May 8th 2008 at 3:48PMThe Sharp Zaurus name might not be quite the force it once was, but it certainly still has its die-hard fan base, as evidenced by the recent efforts of some enterprising individuals to get Android up and running on the slightly out-dated hardware. Now it looks like you can chalk up another OS port to its list of accomplishments, with an early release of Ubuntu now available for the handheld. As you might expect, the 0.1 release is a pretty stripped down affair, with the entire download weighing in at a mere 80MB. (Read the full post about ‘Ubuntu gets ported to Sharp Zaurus PDAs’…)

Gun-Cams Could See Action Soon

Written by admin on Friday, May 9th, 2008 in Gadgets and Devices.

Cops in Washington DC might see their pistols fitted with cameras in the near future, assuming a draft local bill is passed by the DC judicial committee. This would mean gunsight video is recorded every time the weapon was drawn. While gun camera technology isn’t exactly rocket science and can be purchased off the shelf already, equipping the entire force with this system will introduce a whole new bunch of tasks to the department, as somebody has to keep track of all those videos. Do you think this will help heal community relations with the cops? Has anybody purchased GunTube.com already?

He copied them to his flash drive, shared them with his fellow employees and put them on the hard drives of other customers. While employee, William E. Giffels fully admitted to viewing and copying the photos to his flash drive, he claimed they ended up on other computers computers solely by accident when he forgot to delete them from the drive before allowing other employees to use it to access the diagnostic tools he also had stored on it.  There hasn’t been any comment from Best Buy yet, but one can assume Mr. Giffels will be seeking new employment soon. Qwest abandons Sprint, seals a five-year deal with Verizon
Sometimes a good partnership will come to an end, no matter how strong and stable your company is, it will tend to suffer some major setbacks no matter how you try to avoid it. Take the case of the recent falling out between Qwest and Sprint Mobile. After rescuing Qwest a few years ago when it folded up its cell phone services, Sprint is now about to lose one of its major outlets for its cell phone services. Ironically, Qwest will be turning to one of Sprint’s competitors, Verizon Wireless for its mobile services needs. But that’s just the way business works, right? Anyway, with the new agreement, Qwest customers will have the option to either purchase Verizon’s full mobile services as a bundle with Qwest’s landline services or separately.
