Nokia’s $560 N78 now available in US
by Darren Murph, posted Jun 24th 2008 at 9:50AM You’ve piddled around in our unboxing shots and replayed that hands-on video countless times. Now, the time has finally come to bust open the piggy bank and secure your very own Nokia N78. Dramatics aside, the HSDPA-packin’ handset that also musters a 3.2-megapixel camera and A-GPS can now be purchased at Nokia flagship stores in Chicago and New York, numerous online retailers and the occasional mom ‘n pop shop for around $560. Genius’ SP-T1200 speaker system loves to be touched

Genius’ SP-T1200 speaker system loves to be touched
by Darren Murph, posted Jun 24th 2008 at 3:01PM Okay, so you could argue that most any speaker system would appreciate some TLC, but Genius’ latest really adores it. The SP-T1200 2.0 Touch Speaker System comes with a black-onyx finish and enables owners to rely on a touch screen to control function, volume, bass or treble. When touched, the panel lights up to visually show that contact has been made, and while these promise 30-watts of skull-rattling sound, we wouldn’t count on audiophile type results. 3G iPhone Compared

3G iPhone Compared
What’s the point of having something new without comparing it to the old? Here’s an image of the upcoming 3G iphone with the older version, courtesy of our friends at iLounge. Its front is almost exactly the same as the original model’s, now with an array of three sensors (two proximity sensors, one ambient light sensor) in a J shape to the left of the ear speaker, and a wider black frame around its 3.5” touchscreen. Whereas the previous iPhone was narrower than a full-sized iPod, ipod classic or iPod touch, the iPhone 3G is now the same 2.4” width, and slightly taller than the iPod touch and classic at 4.5” versus 4.3” and 4.1”. Motorola Motozine ZN5

Motorola Motozine ZN5
Motorola has been in a decline for quite some time already, as the world generally suffered from an overdose of all things RAZR. In fact, the company has suffered much until word has it that they might even sell off the cell phone unit if things do not continue to improve. Hopefully Motorola will do it right with the Motozine ZN5 cell phone - the latest release from Motorola. This time round, they have a formidable ally in the form of Kodak, joining forces to provide a high quality phone and camera experience to further bridge the ever narrowing gap between a cell phone and a digital camera. Granted, you won’t get all the bells and whistles of a dedicated digital camera, but this one sounds (and looks) much better than any other entry-level digital camera. USB Hub Notebook Light

USB Hub Notebook Light
Even if the summer season means we get a few hours of extra sunlight, us night owls are still left in the dark, season after season. While most of us geeks are extremely smart when it comes to mindless trivia and gaming, we lack the common sense it takes to survive doing the things we love. Case in point, we stay up all night, yet forget to buy a notebook with a backlit keyboard. Of course we could buy an actual desk lamp, at least those who remember to pay their electricity bill can. But what if we just like chilling in the total darkness with just a faint light illuminating our keyboard? Not only does this USB Hub Notebook Light appeal to our fear of total darkness, but also provides us with four ex (Read the full post about ‘USB Hub Notebook Light’…)

Nokia Opens Up Symbian – The Cost of Influence is $410M
Nokia already had a large stake in Symbian, the entity that produces the operating system (OS) for its phones. Now, the company bought the rest of the shares for $410M and announced that phone makers would not have to pay to use the Symbian OS anymore. By doing this, Nokia hopes to boost the market share of the Symbian OS. Just like Google with its Android mobile platform, Nokia is trying to gain mindshare and influence in a world where software is more and more where the value is, because it defines the user experience more than the hardware. As an example, just compare the Samsung OMNIA and the iphone 3G, similar specifications, but very different user experience. Fuel Cell Powers Laptop

Fuel Cell Powers Laptop
A California company recently rolled out a 25-watt mobile fuel cell system that has enough juice to power a ruggedized laptop computer. A solitary 250cc cartridge is able to offer up to 14 hours of power, which is pretty impressive. Dubbed the XX25, this fuel cell will generate fuel cell-ready hydrogen internally, creating juice for whichever appliance you want to use while weighing 35% of the original non-fuel cell power source. I wonder how long will it be before fuel cell cartridges are available for common use. Tags: DAB, tech, Ogg, pvp (Read the full post about ‘Fuel Cell Powers Laptop’…)

Gadgetell Hands On: The Microsoft Surface, Part 3

Gadgetell Hands On: The Microsoft Surface, Part 3
Continuing on with the Microsoft Surface hands on series, here is the latest group of images. These are from the collection of early Surface tables. As you can see, the Surface has come a long way from where it began. It was a neat arrangement to be able to check out. Personally my favorite style was the futuristic Jetson’s looking table, but some others were interesting as well. For example the lighter colored wooden table was actually made from an Ikea table, I guess you could call that a special edition. The taller, red colored table (stand) was also a really interesting one to check out, built by hand, that table has a slot towards the bottom that a laptop slide in and out of. A laptop you ask, yup, a laptop because that is what happened to power that particular model. (Read the full post about ‘Gadgetell Hands On: The Microsoft Surface, Part 3′…)

The photo-loving BlackBerry Kickstart gets pictured, yet again
The blackberry Kickstart is what is aiming to be a highly anticipated BlackBerry, for some they are anxious to use one, and for some its just a curiosity factor as this will be RIM’s first venture into the world of flip-style phones. One thing that is for sure is that, at least up until now, there has not been any shortage of live sightings of the Kickstart, and the latest leaked images even show off some comparison shots with not one, but two Bolds. Sadly while the comparison shot is decent, the rest are in the typical leaked image fashion—blurry. We do however also get a pretty good glimpse of the front exterior display, which in this case shows of a nice looking “analog” clock. Ricoh updates the Caplio GX100 with the new GX200
Ricoh has just announced a successor to its popular Caplio GX100 digital camera that was released in April 2007 with the new GX200. Being the successor to a highly successful product, Ricoh decided to include many features of the GX100 into the GX200 as well. Some of these features include a 24 to 72 mm (35mm film equivalent focal length) high-performance wide-angle optical zoom lens, thin ultra-compact body, various manual shooting features and its removable tilting electronic viewfinder. But that is not to say that the GX200 offers nothing more than its predecessor. Because certainly, aside from having those similar features, the GX200 also boasts of a 12-megapixel CCD, dramatic noise reduction, and a new image processing engine called Smooth Imaging Engine II.
