Becker readies Z100 Crocodile GPS system for IFA debut
by Darren Murph, posted Jul 18th 2008 at 5:44PM Believe it or not, the Berlin-based IFA trade show is nearly upon us, and Becker is more than prepared. Reportedly, the Z100 Crocodile will be making the journey, complete with a 4.3-inch display, an SD card slot, European NAVTEQ maps, a SiRFstarIII GPS receiver and RDS-TMC support. Furthermore, the unit will sport an ultra-rugged exterior meant to handle nearly any jungle excursion you set out on. Dell shows its love for Linux, rolls Ubuntu 8.04 out to systems
by Darren Murph, posted Jul 18th 2008 at 3:08PM Aw, aren’t these two just as cute as a button together? We can almost see Dell gushing at the thought of rolling Ubuntu out in a pair of new machines early next month. Nah, we didn’t just fabricate that — the Ubuntu 8.04-powered XPS M1530N and Studio 15N should be available in a matter of weeks, and in the meantime, you open source aficionados can enjoy Hardy Heron as a pre-installed option on the XPS M1330N, Inspiron 1525N and Inspiron 530N. Sawed off USB cable

Written by admin on Friday, July 18th, 2008 in Gadgets and Devices.

Sawed off USB cable
Why is that rather ugly-looking sawed-off USB cable worthy of mention, you ask ? Well, because it is a clever camouflage for what is infact a 2GB USB drive. Now do we see you nodding in appreciation ? An invention from designer Windell Oskay, this product is expected to start selling soon at Fred and Friends. To mention the perhaps-insignificant-thought that just crossed my mind – I was just wondering if the intended disguise would end up attracting more unwelcome attention to my laptop. Well, never mind. BlackBerry Bold heading to T-Mobile, in Germany
So sad for those hoping that the blackberry Bold would be landing shortly at T-Mobile here in the US, but instead pricing information has been announced for T-Mobile Germany. The price is set at €219.95 (about $350 US), which is a bit higher than the $299 that has already been announced for Rogers, which will begin offering their version next Friday on July 25. T-Mobile Germany currently has the available date simply listed as July, with the option to reserve now, but it is rumored to be coming on July 21, which is this Monday. Coming back to the US release, at this time we have only seen a confirmation come from AT&T, but they are still having trouble setting an official availability date. Digital Foci’s Photo Safe II takes the load off of your flash card
by Darren Murph, posted Jul 18th 2008 at 4:36PM Digital Foci didn’t go out of its way to drastically redesign the original Photo Safe, but we ’spose that’s alright in the grand scheme of things. Essentially, the Photo Safe II picks up where its predecessor left off by including a multicard reader (now with 100% more MS Duo and miniSD support) which automatically transfers photos from your flash card onto the built-in 80GB / 160GB hard drive. The integrated display tells you at a glance how much space is remaining and how much battery life is left, though it won’t show your stored photos in slideshow (or any other) fashion. A touch steep at $139 (80GB) / $189 (160GB), but that’s convenience for you.[Via jkOnTheRun]Read Pe (Read the full post about ‘Digital Foci’s Photo Safe II takes the load off of your flash card’…)

Today marks one week since the iphone 3G went on sale. I waited in line but at least there was a 16GB black iPhone 3G at the end of it. We’re now receiving reports of continued long lines, and at the end of those lines people are either being turned away because of a store closing for the night, or because of stock issues. In some cases people are being left with only an 8GB black or a 16GB white.

As of mid-afternoon yesterday, MacLife was reporting upwards of a two hour wait outside some Apple stores.

HP Blackbird 002 Exhilaration Edition gets unboxed
by Darren Murph, posted Jul 18th 2008 at 8:43AM Apparently some folks have $6,600 to toss on a gaming PC, and thankfully, those folks — we won’t mention names — invested in a camera to let us all live vicariously. HP’s Blackbird 002 Exhilaration Edition, which packs a pair of NVIDIA’s potent GeForce GTX 280 cards, has landed in the home of one lucky gamer, and there’s a good selection of pictures to prove it. Lego cutlery for some mealtime fun

Lego cutlery for some mealtime fun
Lap it up Lego fans, now you can get yourself some Lego-like cutlery if the Snack and Stack utensils from Fred and Friends start selling on the market. Each set of three (fork, spoon and knife) utensils has handles made of silicone that lock into each other just like Lego blocks. And apparently that’s not just for fun, but for utility as well. You can stack up the threesome easily enough for storage, or discover further uses with your imagination. Methinks they have the potential to liven up a dull kitchen or even inspire a fussy child to have a hearty meal. Via Slippery Brick. (Read the full post about ‘Lego cutlery for some mealtime fun’…)

Philips 32PFL9603D Review

Philips 32PFL9603D Review
The extremely attractive Philips 32PFL9603D is one of Philips’ latest LCD HDTVs from their very impressive Philips 9600 Series. Before I get into the juicy technical details of the 32-inch Philips 32PFL9603D/10, lets talk a little bit about the design and styling. I have seen a lot of HDTVs, but this has to be one of the most stylish and attractive looking sets I have seen. The black glossy frame surrounds the LCD screen with smooth rounded corners, finishing it off with a thin elegant silver trim and invisible speakers. Part design feature and part technical feature, the 32PFL9603D features the Philips Ambilight Spectra 2, where light is emitted around the set matching the colour of the image being shown, creating an impressive look which makes viewing even more impressive and also reduced eye strain. Apple Orders More MacBooks
Apple is seen to be ramping up its notebook production this summer after placing an order for 20% more circuit boards required for its MacBook line, according to a Taiwan-area newspaper who have dugged around, identifying up to four companies in Taiwan who will benefit from this exercise. Word has it that a redesigned MacBook Pro case will be released pretty soon, while there are also whispers of new high-end and regular MacBooks coming out later this year as well.
