Dr. Dre Beats Earphones

Written by admin on Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008 in Gadgets and Devices.

Dr. Dre should stick to creating new records and beats instead of churning out peripherals like the Dr. Dre Beats earphones. This pair of cans will hit retail stores from the 25th of this month onwards, retailing for a massive $349.95. You must be silly rich or a huge Dr. Dre fan if you’re going to fork out such a huge wad of cash for a pair of headphones, and even if you are a serious audiophile, I think you would rather settle for an alternative brand that has better quality performance. Seriously, if street cred could be bought with money, this would certainly do the trick - otherwise, avoid it at all costs.

studiVZ sued by Facebook for cloning website

Written by admin on Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008 in Gadgets and Devices.

Facebook are more than a little unhappy with the German social networking site studiVZ. So upset in fact, that they have filed a lawsuit claiming the German company has cloned the Facebook design for their own site.

Mark Howitson, deputy general counsel for Facebook said:

We believe that our success thus far has been directly related to the unique look and feel of both the site and user interface, and are very disappointed that studiVZ has unfairly used our creativity, innovation and effort by building a ‘clone’ site to compete directly against us … Ultimately, we are supporters of innovation, not imitation.

studiVZ on the other hand, totally disagree with the claims made against them and their chief executive, Marcus Riecke has stated:

Now that Facebook, despite trying hard, has not been successful in the German market, the company seeks to obstruct studiVZ through court action.

Art Lebedev has pre-announced a mini Optimus Maximus, called the Optimus Pultius. It will sit nicely beside a Maximus, or act as a standalone pad for the cheapskates amongst you. The keyboard features 15 OLED keys, of which our favorite is, of course, the second from the top in the first column. Round the back is the familiar SD card slot from the Maximus and also a USB hub (a single port this time, not a double).

The price is unannounced but it will doubtless be expensive (the Maximus is $1600) but Lebedev expects the Pultius to ship at the end of this year or the beginning of 2009.

And the name? No idea. I checked online for Latin translations and nothing appeared. One thing is certain, though.

iPhone 3G goes beyond $1,000 mark on eBay
Just how hot do you think that the iPhone 3G has gotten? It seems that pent up demand for this smartphone has reflected in insane prices on eBay, with some of the bids already surpassing the magical $1,000 mark. Heck, even in the real world, demand for the iphone 3G still results in lines forming outside of more notable Apple stores including the one in New York. So far, over 1 million units worldwide has already been sold, and demand remains extremely strong with both AT&T in the U.S. and O2 in the U.K. reporting iPhone 3G shortages. Currently, bids on eBay or the 16GB iPhone has passed the $1,0000 mark with even one bid ending at a ridiculous $2,325, while the smaller capacity 8GB iPhone 3G averages around $800 to $900. Dell’s offering a free Xbox 360 with XPS M1730 notebook
Dell is currently offering a free Xbox 360 Elite bundle with certain customizations of their XPS M1730 laptop.  Nice, huh? Yeah, well the only customization that offers this lucrative deal is the highest, $3000, package.  When you buy the laptop, you get a nice string of Xbox related accessories.  Those included are a pair of faceplates and two games. That checks in at around a $400 value, which is a great offer for those already considering a new laptop purchase and without an Xbox or even those wishing to make a quick buck (or four hundred) on eBay. For those of you fortunate enough to be able to drop three grand on a laptop, you get a nice bonus as well, this offer is available through July 24, 2008.
