AT&T, O2 post updates on iPhone 3G stock situation, promise they don’t have a secret cache
by Chris Ziegler, posted Jul 24th 2008 at 11:31AM Conspiracy theories tend to run rampant when a phone (or any object of desire, for that matter) that’s produced in absolutely enormous quantities dries up in retail locations. Are they really sold out? Is the retailer trying to work prospective buyers into a frenzied lather? Is the CEO sleeping on a bed fashioned of gilded iPhone 3Gs? The answer to that last question is very likely “yes” either way, but for their part, AT&T and O2 have both come out to promise customers that they’re putting handsets out in retail just as quickly as they possibly can, with AT&T additionally noting that it’s shipping out direct fulfillment orders on a “first-come, first-serve basis” with lead times currently running around two weeks — in other words, “ship us some more frickin’ phones, Apple.” Seriously though, how’s Apple going to come even close to keeping up with the next round of national launches when they’re so woefully behind on the existing ones? Beer Siren - Ask for More

Beer Siren - Ask for More
For those who don’t frequent watering holes, here’s news for you. A beer tube is a simple device that harnesses the power of gravity so that your brew will be dispensed in a jiffy. Fast pouring beer equals to fast drinking, and fast drinking normally translates to you being unable to walk in a straight line shortly thereafter. With the Beer Siren around, it makes sure the local bartender will remain sensitive to your thirst as it will alert the bar and everybody else in the room, as they start to whisper among themselves regarding the job you’re in which is so stressful that you need non-stop alcohol to cope with the situation. The Beer Siren will retail for $19 a pop. Tags: mobile devices, gaming, TV, hom (Read the full post about ‘Beer Siren - Ask for More’…)

Stay away from MobileMe

Stay away from MobileMe
I’m still using a blackberry, but I stay on the look out with my iphone buddies: from what I hear, you might want to check these latest MobileMe (or MobileMess…) reviews from the NY Times and elsewhere. They both complain about the fact that the service definitely doesn’t “just work”. This adds-up to the disappointment over the fact that apple has marketed MobileMe as a “push” service, while many argue that it is more like a “sync” service. Anyhow, stay on the fence until the situation gets better, that’s our advice. We’ll keep an eye on the situation. Ball Shaped Concept PC Could Change the Shape of Computing
There’s nothing that I love more than covering new concept gadgets, and this is one of the coolest that I have ever seen. Introducing the ball-shaped PC from designer Apostol Tnokovski. This PC ball is a 6-inch orb, that is said to be the smallest PC ever made. This is assuming that it has been made. Some of these pictures that I’ve seen of it (including the one here) look a little CG to me, but these days, you can hardly tell. The PC ball has legs that fold out, and remind me of the droidikas from Star Wars: The Phantom Menance. (Speaking of CG) As for the keyboard, it is one of those laser keyboards that I have seen before on other applications. As for the mouse, it is a pop-out job that affixes to ball. VIA getting serious about open source?

Written by admin on Thursday, July 24th, 2008 in Gadgets and Devices.

If you have ever built up a computer using a VIA C3 or C7 processor it becomes clear pretty quickly that a lightweight operating system is your friend. This has been especially true if you are working with the small platform desktops that VIA specialized in, like Mini-ITX and Pico-ITX. On these applications an OS without much footprint can be extremely useful. Not surprisingly Linux distributions have been a great option in these situations, especially for enthusiasts who are not reliant on Windows.

VIA just announced they they will be contracting Harald Welte to be their open source liaison.
